WORKOUT- PERSONAL PROFILE

Personal Profile With the ever-increasing popularity of social media, most of us have one.

Here’s the thing with those profiles. We get to choose what we want to reveal about ourselves to others. We can even present ourselves as someone we’d like to be. We’ve all heard at least one of those stories of someone who presented a completely different person online than who they actually are.

But if we’re honest, there are only a handful of people in our lives who really know us intimately. And even those people don’t know everything.

Good grief, there are days that I don’t feel like I even know myself!

But nothing is hidden from God. He knows our true profile. He knows us more intimately than anyone else. Take a look:

Psalm 139:1-4, 14-16 (NLT)

1 O Lord, you have examined my heart  and know everything about me.2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.16 You saw me before I was born.Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

You see, God doesn’t NEED us to be open with Him. He DESIRES us to be open.

God’s desire for intimacy with the people He created can be found from the very beginning when we read that God walked in the garden amongst Adam and Eve. In fact, he desired intimacy with us so much, that He sent His son to earth in human form.

Did you know that God wants us to know Him intimately as well?

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NLT) “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

It’s been said that intimacy means, IN-TO-ME-SEE.

In my last blog, I wrote about making ourselves “at home” with God.

But how do we build an “at home” and intimate relationship with God?

I used the word build because it takes effort and it’s a process. When I started jogging, I didn’t start out running a 5k race. I had to build up to that.

Psalm 139:23-24 is an excellent example on how to begin and build an intimate relationship  with God.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;  test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (emphasis added)

  1. Search me: Be humble and honest about your true profile (In-to-me-see).
  2. Point out: Admit faults (sins) and ask for His help and cleansing.
  3. Lead: Let God reveal Himself to you through His word, prayer, and worship.
  4. Everlasting: Be consistent. It takes time and effort to build our “spiritual muscles.”

Blessings on you as you seek a deeper more personal relationship to God!

  1. Beckie, this post is so timely. I, too, have been pondering the verse that He knew me in my mother’s womb. I love that He knows all about us, and still loves us. God is great. Be blessed. Honored to call you my friend!
